Philips PET708/37 Portable DVD Player with Dual LCD Display Screens and Car Mount Kit Review

2.5 from 5

We bought this system for our daughters over two years ago, and it only just failed after receiving a ninja kick from my 2 1/2 year-old. Is it as good as a built in system? Probably not. But it wasn’t my daughter’s first kick that knocked out the system, it was her hundredth, so we’ll be replacing it with another Philips player set. Only complaint, which was stated in other reviews is that the battery covers the car mount point on the back of the player, so you can’t charge the battery while it’s being watched while mounted in the car. Despite the product advise of “please remove player and mount when not in use”, it spent 90% of it’s life hooked up in the car, so the battery issue wasn’t a frequent problem, but it was an inconvenient one, since it was usually so long between times where I dismounted it, the battery was usually dead anyway. Only other feature I’d love to see is just the seemingly simple ability to hook up an ipod video cable to this system. It would be reeeeeaaaaallly nice to be able to keep the iPod up front, where I can control it, while having its video displayed in back for the kids. DVDs are slowly going the way of the dodo bird, so forward compatibility would be nice. Although, given my daughter’s penchant for punishing the poor thing, it probably wouldn’t outlive the DVD obsolescence anyway.

This piece of Quad first quarter in late 2004 and is still widely used, sold today. It is essentially a typical CD player with tuner AM / FM, but unlike any CD player, the front has a 2.5 inch LCD lets you control playback of audio and video from any incorporate a tuner TV (yes, you read that right holders a built-in TV tuner) or an external audio / video source.

Pros

The first thing I like about this piece is the dualstylish design. There are conventional, single DIN design on the front and has a large button on the left side, which is great, because his time in terms of a driver you want to adjust volume and other functions such as buttons.

The display is at the center and slightly bevel the inside, which is excellent for screen protection, saving it from accidental damage and scratches. I also like that the unit of 3 sets of RCA audio outputs, so that trainsfor the four speakers and a subwoofer, if you have one, 2 sets of RCA audio / video inputs and 1 video output. All this means that you could do more audio and video sources to the receiver and add the expansion of the video output to another unit. You can, for example, connect the game console or portable media players, this unit displays the video on your LCD Monitor 2.5 ".

The affordability and simplicity of the DUAL XDV-8125 tops everything from howCherry on top of the cream. Prices range from $ 100 – $ 190, of course, depending on where you are. If you get a good deal at about $ 100, I'd say it should. You will not be in-dash 2.5 "monitor with built-in TV tuner like this.

Cons

There are features missing from this unit. While I believe that simplicity is the key design may be the lack of DVD playback is of great importance for many. However, I do not watch DVD movies with a 2.5 "screenenjoy very good, anyway, so not as a hoax. The role is the ability to receive and tune the television broadcast.

Another minor design flaw may be the incompatibility of the slightly bigger than DIN design. The central panel is leaking like a ship and may cause the installation in some vehicles are either very difficult or impossible. In addition, the CD player and tuner are hidden behind the front panel display, which ismeans that they have fallen at the front to see the display. This brings up the panel stands suspended because of the panel, making it susceptible to accidental bumps or damage.

Overall

Ultimately, I think, buy this device is useful if you could do good business. It has lots of product and input options, a 2.5-inch monitor rare and popular TV tuner. This is a good entry level unit, and even includes a remote control in the field. The device also offers abefore we can average (60 watts, 22 watts RMS), setting a bit better than most head units on the board.
